How to use
  1. Place the cord behind your fabric edge and fold the fabric over or place the cord on top of your fabric edge and roll the fabric over the cord. (Top Tip: ensure your cord is laying next to your project, not underneath it, you want your project to lay flat).
  2. Tack the cord and rolled fabric in place by stitching in the ditch between your project and the cord. (Top Tip: no need to be neat, you’ll be covering it up soon! You can use a simple basting stitch).
  3. Continue tucking the cord into the fabric as you go. (Top Tip: Use a clothes peg to hold in place while you stitch.)
  4. Thread a whipping needle with yarn. Start by stitching through the fabric leaving a small tail of yarn, hold this tail in place and use a whip stitch over it to secure the yarn end. Use this same technique when joining the new length of yarn.
  5. Continue whip stitching around the corded edge making sure you place each stitch close together so the fabric does not show through. You want to wrap and cover the entire corded edge with yarn.
  6. When you’ve finished whipping the corded edge, tuck any remaining yarn underneath a few inches of completed whip stitches and trim off the tail close to your stitches.
  7. Optional: You can stitch twill tape / rug binding to the back of your piece, your twill tape placement should be slightly covering the whipped edge.

CAUTION: Thick rolled edges on a rug in an area with foot traffic can create a trip hazard, make sure your finishing technique is suitable for the intended use of your project!
