Size Guide

Oxford Punch Needles are available in a regular point (for bulky/rug yarn) and fine point (for thinner, worsted weight yarn). Both the regular and fine point punch needles come in multiple needle lengths which can create different pile (loop) heights. All needles pair well with 12-14 holes per inch monks cloth and linen punch needle fabrics. Choose from the:

  • #8 Regular - the longest Oxford needle available, use it to create 1.3cm(½”) loops with bulky weight yarn (5) such as Chunky, Bulky or 3-Ply Rug Yarn. You can also experiment with doubling, tripling or even quadrupling finer yarns and using them together in the punch - as long as your chosen fibre glides through the needle you can punch it!
  • #8 Fine - the longest Oxford needle available, use it to create 1.3cm(½”) loops with medium weight yarn (4) such as Worsted or Aran. Similarly to the regular needle you can also have fun with experimenting with doubling or tripling different yarn weights. Amy Oxford uses this needle with a variety of weights such as worsted, sock, baby, tapestry yarn and needlepoint yarns. The needle comes with a screw eye at its base to help guide your fine yarns in the channel as you punch.
  • #14 Fine - also called “the mini” this is the smallest Oxford punch needle, use it to create compact  3.2mm loops (⅛”) with medium weight yarn (4) such as Worsted or Aran. You can also have fun experimenting with doubling or tripling thinner yarn weights. The needle comes with a screw eye at its base to help guide your fine yarns in the channel as you punch.
Boxed or Unboxed?

Unboxed comes with just the punch needle alone while the boxed version includes a decorative collector’s box, a stitch gauge and the Oxford Punch Needle Handbook. • Yarn Compatibility: Please note when selecting your yarns the Oxford Punch Needle (like all punch needles) does not work well with novelty and designer yarns we recommend avoiding any type of unspun yarn (roving), slub yarns, super fluffy / lumpy / hairy yarns, mohair, bouclé, tweed yarns and novelty yarns with extra trims like nubs, bobbles, tinsel, pom poms, sequins, beads, lace etc. Very smooth, silky and shiny yarns may fall right out of the punch, try experimenting with combining silky yarns with a coarser yarn in your needle, have fun and see what combinations work for you and your project! Unfortunately the Fine Oxford needles do not work well with embroidery floss (no matter how many strands you use!)
